T 'n' A
Remember the family whose two sons had the boat-tail speedster body put on the '16 Ford chassis? Well, one of 'em settled down, had a kid or two and bought a new '24 Chrysler. That's not news (except that I think that was the first year ever for Chrylser, and ya gotta have sand to buy something un-tested, don't you?) but look at the Model T in the foreground. Now look closer. This is 1924 and we note the following Hop Up items on this streetrod. Dropped axle, z'd rear frame, custom (Buffalo) wire wheels; spare mounted in period 'jaunty' fashion; General Cord spare tire cover; custom license plate frame, custom tail light, metal beauty strips on back of body, chopped top, Cad (or Chevy) gas tank in the bustle due to chopped top that required the seat riser to be chopped which caused the gas tank to be removed, custom spotlight, accessory drum headlights, and Frontenac cylinder head (by the Chevrolet Brothers). Does any of this sound familiar?
What the hell else would we do today, to make our own statement with our own Fords? Nothing. This Reynolds cat touched everything that we do in these times to make our cars cool. This man was an individualist, not settling for a stock T, and experimenting with looks and performance. In 1924. Yeah, we got it goin' alright. They've been doin' it for 75 years.
This man's name was Gene Reynolds. 'Was a friend of guy (probably Gene Montgomery) who lived in Pasadena. Maybe he was from Pasadena, too. Can we find him? Did he save the coupe? Did he sell it to Rajo Jack Desoto?

THERE'S MORE OF THIS TO COME. STAY TUNED
|
This year we came into the acquaintance of these two cats from Kansas. Not the Chiefs.
Not Toto. Just two Hop Up Guys who slid over to B'Ville in the '57 Lincoln that one had owned since 1960.' Showed me a picture of him and the car. They both look better now.
He had Roth stripe it at the Bend in the Road. Last year his buddy did the same. Now they have the only two cars in their little town in Kansas with BDR stripes. Whoa.

Correspondant Don Prieto reports the attached letter from his pal Terry Cook, accompanied by these two pics:
"Don:
After four and a half years of the car being built in secret, we debuted my Zephy at the York NSRA Stret Rod Nats East this past few days. There were 5,300 cars there. When we rolled in Friday morning we immediatley put 5,299 of 'em on the trailer.
I mean
we flat -------killed 'em.
Sincerely,
Your pal...
Terry Cook"
After looking at the attached pictures all we could say was...well, I guess!!!
