MORT'S SHORTS

We hate to brag. But sometimes you're pushed in to a corner and you have to come out throwin' lefts and rights (might be notable to some that it ain't ALL metaphor.)

We don't have to tell Hop Up Guys about riding around in hot rods. Wasn't gonna, necessarily. But we did a bit of that in an 18 day (two legs) spurt this summer. 5000 miles.

Kind of quietly mused that it was real nice. 'Had a flat tire, even.

Hmmmm. 18 days of alternately hard runnin' and cruisin' all over the mid west. Bar B Q's with pals old and new in literally every state we drove in.

We told you about the Speed Kings. Yeah, Baby.

Hung with the Tundra Elite at Hendrickson's Museum (he says 'warehouse'). Parked our car among some of the heppest hot rods (and hot rodders) and a collection of the most collectible 'Vettes in the country; got the A tour of collections you just don't penetrate............you just don't........but we hate to brag...............

Took in Back to the 50's. 10,600 cars. Lordy. And all the doin's of Long Lake Minnesota. We can see why the Long Lake Roadster Club holes up in the winter time at Stupie's.

A dozen excursions on state highways to places like Zoerring, Iowa. There really was a reason...kinda.

Knoxville Nationals. First person in the stands on the first night. No morons there, either. Saw a little about what that Kinser deal is all about. Whoa!

One 15 minute rainstorm in 5000 miles. No bitch there........

Ran with the Kentucky Road Agents part of the way. Hard. And fun. And low key. Rejoiced in the friendships.........

Speedway Museum. Preview private tour by the Speedy One himself. Got stuck in the elevator with him, by the way; had to be 'rescued'; cool. Memorable.

Spent three days at Bonneville with a bunch of good friends.....chaired the first 100 MPH Club awards banquet.........rooted for lots of friends race teams.....then hurried home.

And one leaky voyeur - who heard it second hand - is tellin' everybody about the grueling flat tire?

Where was I during all of this?
