THIS MONTH'S COVER
Aaron Von Minden had been here before...and his junk is going to be in Hop Up Volume V. He's always at Elmo, and he's usually actin' up.... a regular Hot Rod Daddy.
He took this cover picture on a Saturday...that's the day the hardcore get there.
HOTRODARAMA
In August. In Tacoma. Right at the end of Speedweek. Hop Up endorsed (that's a sponsorship with no money thrown in!) and Hop Up covered. It'll be on the September web page.
Here ya got a legitimate early style hot rod and custom shindig......in a beautiful part of the country........a good mix of music, cars, culture, generational cross-breeding.....and it's takin' place at a frickin' saloon?
Why wouldn't ya go to that?!!!!
Really, our Pal Crazy Eddie put on a Doozy (do you know where that came from?) last year for the inaugural, and if you are anywhere within cruising' distance, Daddy, you know what's next: if yer square, ya ain't there, mon frere.
Check here: www.hotrodarama.com
And go: in a few years when he's havin' em all over the country you can say, "Hey, Man, I was a Charter Member of that deal! I remember when they didn't even have a Giveaway Car!!!"
T N' A
GOIN' RACIN'
Antique Nationals was bigger than ever, host club said they have some ideas to share with the raceway that will ease up the ingress next time. Good job all 'round anyway.
Joe Mac Depreciation Day was great. The Man shared tales with us, answered some questions and 4E4 Club presented a trophy of appreciation to him. Nice surprise..
John Sultsbaugh was there with his newly cut up'22 T that was a product of the pic on the back of Speed Secrets a coupla months ago: Norris Cook in his T roadster looked so cool back in about '29, John was inspired, drove cross town and bought a T he'd heard about, and cut it up.
Oh, Sweet Mystery of Life.
It was too easy: Sawzall, drill motor, ratchet, the 20's How-To book and oua-la: the hit of the meet! Kind of a Multy Aldrich piece, it is directly influenced by the fact that John grew up down the street from Aldrich. Who'd-a thought?
Here's a pic Mitch took.
CALIFORNIA HOT RODS MOVES ON UP
California Hot Rods had an open house in June to celebrate their bigger shop. They had the chassis nearly done on the Teaser , Rudabager was there and - bribery - talked us out of some Tex-Mex chow in exchange for some spy photos. It's gonna be a fun one. Details and progress photos will be in Hop Up Volume V, available on pre-sale in September. It's gonna be tough hanging at Bonneville, watching Rustman, Dago Wayno, TV/KV, Heg-mon and Burt and the others chasing 100....and knowing that if we'd-a been cool....if we'd-a been clever..if we'd-a been a Hop Up Guy................... and advanced our project some way EVERY DAY......we might be out there running the T with them.....maybe next time. Should we maybe oughta read our own crap and shame ourselves in to the barn?
Anyway, they had a helluva crowd, a bunch of cool rides, BBQ and all; Smith's shop is really well-equipped for the fine work done there......... and in addition to the customary warranty......he promises prospective customers that Nottex is only there to do paperwork ....a kind of hairy-legged eye candy......and will not be allowed near projects..........since he has a propensity to remove clutch pedals...and that don't fly at CHR.
LIVIN' VICARIOUSLY
You know how we got these dreams and...seems like we told ya......a Pal dreamed up the same dream....now we don't have to save up and do it?
Oh, yeah, Baby. Just like John's Multi T saves us from doing it (thanks!), Larry McKinney has built the '31 Vic that needed doing.
It's not like it was our idea alone; some things just need done. And when the product of someone else's toil matches your vision of it, well........'found' money.SPEED SECRETS
Is still the 'go-to' for banger tech. Look up the web site and subscribe, and pay 'tention.
Joe Mac Rebuilds Ford Stuff Hell, NO! Nobody wants to work on your V8-era trans. OR the banjo rear-end. I sure wish Joe Mac Clelland was around.................... He is, of course. The trans-master turns them around in about a day and you can find him at: (909) 371-3111, in Corona, Cal. |
