We're cooled out with a Saturday night jug of Cabernet, diggin' the music and she says, "Hey, look at the album cover...there's a car on it." Something looked familiar to her on the back cover where the song list is printed out over a picture of an old roadster at the lakes. Familiar, Hell! Those Swedish rascals have lifted the photo of the HOP UP CRAGAR that was taken at Muroc, from the first issue of Hop Up On-line!!!!
It was a photo taken of the previous owner making a blast behind the pit area, and there it is bigger n' life. Pretty cool. Not sanctioned, but pretty cool!.
Less often you see his original, early hot rod, full-fendered deuce 5 window, that is another righteous piece. How do these guys find those original cars? He's got a job, for chrissake, so how could he camp out day and night around old sheds where he's heard about mysterious, unseen old rods, and invest the time and conversation necessary to pry the rust away from someone who has enshrined it in redwood for 50 years????
How much money do you think it takes after you've done your begging and rationalizing and reasoning, and , NO! You don't suppose he's so slick he gets them for FREE, do you?!!! Probably not, but......
But he hasn't pulled off the BAT trick yet: to do a BAT trick, ya gotta have a B, and an A, and a T.
He hadn't done the BAT Trick . Until NOW.
Stubby needed an A. Stubby found an A. Gawd, did he find an A. You've already scrolled your ass down to the pictures, haven't you? You probably didn't even come back up here to read the rest because you got drool all over your keyboard, something shorted out, it quit and you had to go out to the garage. You're out there now, distracting yourself by pulling open drawers of the tool box, looking but not seeing, wishing you had been there with Stubby, opening the Tomb. You wouldn't have coveted his car, because that wouldn't be cool, but you would like to have been along for the find. Oh, Yeah. Thank ya, Baby.
Tutankhaman hasn't got diddley on this one. And you can tell that it wasn't really that entombed, but, just the same, it is a notable find, and a noble excision of the iron from the redwood. It looks like a runner, doesn't it?
We know Stubby will do the right thing - he's a Hop Up Guy, ya know?- and maybe he'll keep us abreast (don't you love being abreast?) of his progress.
e hopup verita.
"Cornwall & W. Devon". Where the hell is that? Connecticut? Massachusetts?
Yeah, you knew right away. This iron is in England! Joe Paynter seems to have installed a left side steering column in his Deuce "Hop Up" project and this cat is one who goes for correctness all 'round: Real 16" wheels. Bias ply tires. Wishbones. We want that gas tank! Firewall is probably flopped, huh? What kinda body goes here, Joe?
The Hop Up handle is OK with us, but we want to know if the car's gonna be at the European Nationals in England next year? We expect we'll be there, with our hot iron, lookin' for some great roads to cruise from the other side; lookin' to squall them tars on the U.K. tarmac. Doug (Scot) Brennan tells us you all put on a good shin-dig, so, Cheery-frickin'-O!!!
