THIS MONTH’S COVER
FUTURES
We asked Peter Vincent to snap a picture of the new blower for the coupe; it goes on top of the 327 motor and it seemed like such a perfect application, we had to see it. Now, when you or I (especially I) send a snap to somebody it’s just a snap. But when Peter Vincent takes a photograph - digital or film - something different occurs. It’s an image that you’re supposed to write something spicy about… but I’m dumfounded…..trying to make the words that (not the hacks) but a real writer would say. There really is art to photography.
We asked for some more and it’s below.

HE’S NOT JUST A PHOTOG WHO SHOOTS CARS; HE’S GOT IT AS BAD AS ANYBODY
Probably no explanation required when you look at the garage and know it’s your Bro who likes hot rods and has it for a Camaro that was once a Bonneville car and now is getting it’s next belly-rub in a road-race-TransAm guise. I’ve known of this redo for a long time and kept my mouth shut….. hoping upon gushing hope that he’d do it the way he’s doing it. BITCHIN.

“Well, I’ve traveled every road in this here land….
I been ever-where, Man;
Cross the desert bare, Man;
Breathed the mountain air, Man.
Wind blowin’ in my hair, Man.
Drove my tires bare, Man.
I been ever-where….”
Brian Burns (as many others…. but this one is all TEXAS e.g. ‘When it comes to travelin’
Texas, Man, I’ve been everywhere.’
This report from your correspondant, from a Texan trapped in a Californian’s body: a Transtexual, Jard says.

THE LAST ICONOCLASTS?
Just may be. The bullying trends with government today strip individualists of their individualism and make us all alike…socially, politically and economically.
California legislators just took a long look at our gang and made a ‘profile’ decision that we must be bad, so, as a ‘favor’ to our community, used exaggerated, hysterical nonsense to begin the separation of us from our old cars.
As long as preaching ‘green’ has the PERIPHERAL HAND-WRINGING BENEFIT of diminishing wealth…they’ll be after us. If you don’t think that they think you have wealth because of one stinkin’ old car…..you have another think coming.

CALIFORNICATE TO ARIZONA RELIABILITY RUN IS ON
November 12,13,14. Top ‘er off, Bub, we’re gonna make a run to Prescott, and celebrate the great state of Arizona. Not exactly a Great Race, not a Cannonball, just hot rods and customs making the easy grade over to a Great State where we will have an ad hoc round up, spend lots of money with hoteliers, restaurants and merchants, look at property and get reacquainted with the Expats that have paved the way for us.
Looks like a couple dozen cars already, room for as many as you please.
We’ll have accomodations info and all that later.
Check here for any updates; they will appear whether or not we’re on hiatus…...................

I’m tellin’ ya Baby it’s a runnin’ thing…”

BILL SNYDER CHEV: (WAITING FOR PICTURES!!!)
I bought the car in Jan. 1975. I had a 65” Chevelle at the time, that I turned into a hot rod, and wanted to get something older. My budget was $100.00. Every day after work I checked the paper for something, and one Friday, I found the ad for it. I called the number, “Yea, its here.” I got directions, called a friend of mine, grabbed a tow rope and we were on our way. It was in Norwalk, the guy I talked to said it was his Brother-in-law’s car and the price was firm, no haggling. The owner’s wife told him the car had to go, he called a junk yard and they were only offering $50.00, and he wanted $100.00. The car had been on a non-op since 1968 with a blown motor.
I bought it, we towed it home, and the next day it was up in the garage. It was an old low rider, the front springs had been torched, blocks in the back, nosed and decked, and twice pipe’s. I decided I wanted to do something different with my car other then having it look like all the other old Chevy’s out there. I replaced the front springs at stock height, ditched the blocks, pulled the engine, and had it rewired. The entire trunk floor was rotted out, so I replaced it with one from another Chevy I found in a junk yard. I spent a lot time at junk yards and swap meets looking for parts. I decided to do I guess what you’d call an amateur restoration. You can see from the pics I had a lot accessories on it, most of them were N.O.S. At the time I never saw any old Chevy’s like this. I liked the dark green on these Chevy’s so I decided to go with that. The dash and window frames were painted a root beer brown, I think it was a Cadillac color. I found a guy in Long Beach, who was a third generation upholster, worked out of his garage, and did classic cars. You can see in the one pic of the interior, it’s gray cloth. It was done in the late 70’s over a period of two years, and is still in great shape.
As the years went by, more and more of these Chevy’s were turning up at cruise nights and shows with all the accessories on them. My Chevy was looking just like the rest of them. I decided it was time to change the car. I took off most of the outside accessories, as you can see from the pics. I did keep the skirts, since the Chevy deluxe models of that era came with them on the car. I also lowed it some, and put duels on it. All this happened after I joined the Sultans.
In 1989 I bought another 49’ Chevy, this one was a Styleline two door sedan. I wanted to learn how to do body work, so I took a night class at Cerritos College for a couple of years. I decided to make this on into a custom. Nosed, shaved, and decked it, frenched a pair of 50’ Ford tail lights in the rear, frenched the head lights, along with all the typical dents and dings. I eventually had to sell the car, but now I could turn my attention to the Fleetline, which was showing it’s age. The engine smoked on one cylinder, the paint was faded, the stainless trim was dull, etc.
I won’t go into a lot of detail, as you can see from the pics as the car is progressing. However, once again, I want it to look different from the rest, so I decided to go kustom on it.
I tried to keep this as short as possible, and not ramble. If theres any more info you want let me know.
Take care,
Bill Snyder

A COUPLA WCK SANTA MARIA SHOTS

IT FLIPPIN’ WORKS, BOYS.(Found on Don’s Hot Rod Page)
Some guys just have vision. If our best illustrator drew this car… it would look like the photo..you don’t have to take any liberties like you do when, say, it’s imossible to make something look as good as it ought to; you know, sometimes it’s physically impossible.
FABIAN’S TRUCK HAS SOME NEW PANEL SCALLOPS THAT LOOK GOOD;
IS THAT WHAT YA CALL ‘EM?
HIS CHEBBIE IS SMART AND HAS SOME COLOR ON IT; AND HIS LONGROOF HAS
BODYWORK DONE AND…WHEN DOES THIS GUY WORK ON CUSTOMER STUFF???
Returning the street cruise apparently cured anything that might have ailed Santa Maria: all rave reviews.
