THIS MONTHS’ COVER
Just a simple firewall, and a small part of it at that. Say lots, tho’ don’t it? Volumes.
There’s a place in Pennsylvania where real deal hot rod alchemy is taking place and even though the protagonist there got it fair and square - third generation, he is- he’s a pioneer. His style (what was our original pure style) is just as out of fashion now as the stuff was when it originated a hundred years ago. Zach Suhr has no large audience to which to play; the craft in the shop is honed by practice,a coupla pointers from the ol’ guy up the road, and focus; focus on the precise period that this stuff had the most iconoclasm, the most individualism and the least other-directedness…ever..
Oh, he wants others to enjoy it, to feel it and experience it with him, but there couldn’t be aspirations of ‘the big time’ or he’d have gone another way. Nope, his calling was this-a-way.
Look for a little more on him in Hop Up Volume X - Revelation. It’ll be along eventually.

Not much going on here as we wind down in to winter routines, so pull that watchcap down snug and go out to the garage, turn up the heat, grab a cold one and ponder the next project…or that half-done one right over there. Yeah. how ‘bout that one?
There’s some December comments in Mort’sShorts, and other than that, sparce notes this month, but we’re toolin’-up to get some input from the entire Hop Up Staff for future episodes.
Tune in on January First and we’ll give you a New Year’s Eyefull. Yeah, that’s it! T he Eyefull Tower of Hot Rods and Customs!!

LETTER FROM A HOP UP GUY IN NORWAY

Hi Mark
Here’s an e-letter from Norway. This summer I bought an old Hot Rod Tub to drive around while I finish my AV8 roadster. Came accross the car on a anonymous add on a quite well known web forum.
Wondering if any of the readers out there might know something about it’s early history,
name of builder etc.
From my understanding, the 27 touring was restored to original in 1951. Then in 1953 the owner purchased a low 29K mileage mint 1940 V8 60 pick up truck and put all the drivetrain, brakes, steering components into the 27 touring. All of that took place in Redwood City CA. The car left RW city around 95.
The owner / builder passed away and the Tub went to Anaheim near Disneyland CA around 1995. I’ve been in contact with a guy called Edward Pond who purchased it around 1996 or 97.Ed gave me the info above but had lost the builders name.
Tub is more or less untouched since 53. Paint and chrome tells a story everytime I enter the garage. Just someones old car, but it would be fun to know more about it.
The shiny Kelseys came on quite recently though.
It’s getting some S&W of the right vintage while it’s tucked away for the winter. Oterwise just gas and tirewear. Spring is soon to come. Can’t wait.
Sincerly

And Ron Limbrick in Canada has his smart T roadster set for some final fitting and painting; looks like this winter’s shop time will have it real close.
