SEE AND BE SCENE (DRIP PAN)

This-here is where we run pics of iron that we get in the mail or by e mail. You know, kind of a ‘Reader’s Rides’ thing or “See and be scene”. In fact, we’ll kinda call this “See and Be Scene” !! So if you got a project or some iron you had for a long time or whatever, e mail us a look at it and hell, you too could be Fairly-Famous with 18 other really bitchin guys.

We’ll kick this one off: a couple months ago we talked in Mort’s Shorts about my Sister’s boyfriend who had a Merc and a coupe. I had recollected it (I was 8) as a chopped, fenderless ‘34. So much for my memory: it was a chopped, primered ‘32 five window - much like the one out in our own barn we got right here! ‘Wonder if we were imprinted back then?

Now, this one is a different car and guy; may have just been an acquaintance. Dunno. What we do know is ‘James Dean’ Mercs were popular before James Dean…and cheap sunglasses have always been cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WAYNE YEATS (WAYNO) WRITES:

“Mark, I just participated in the “Sea to Sea in a
Model T” tour from Baltimore to Santa Monica. I left
the deal at Albuquerque and flew home only to drive
back to Santa Fe the next day to pick up the ‘26 Tudor
I bought. I should have the T up and running this week
and have every intention of making it my daily driver.
I venture to say it will be an excellent tin magnet.
After all, that’s how I got it. We pulled off to the
side of the road just South of Santa Fe for minor
adjustments and a fellow stopped to see if we needed
help. during the conversation he produced a photo and
asked if I knew anyone whom might be interested in
such a car. We came to terms.
See you at the Antique Nats or Fathers Day? Wayno”

Our friend in Monterey, Tim Cunha, is always good for discovering an old racer or exploits at El Mirage or, you know, always got the jump on us lesser beings.

Now, seems this here roadster, restored by a notable restorer…was restored from a hot rod…oh, the humanity, and now it’s in Tim’s hands and he’s pondering what to do. We think we know…...................

“How’s this one?”...
1972, San Rafael Car Show & Parade…
On de left is Jim Palmer’s ‘32, before it became the famous #533 roadster…
Harry Craycroft, with Ray Anderegg’s 1955 AMBR car that he had found in
pieces for $800…
John Fischer, with one of Andy’s Instant T’s that I built…
Tony Hobbs, who still owns his tub, but is now painted a Candy Orange…
Yours truely, with Jack Hagemann’s new nose and hood, before the full
belly pan treatment…
It’s been 36 years and they say that time flies…
Only seems like yesterday…
