SPEED KINGS OF OMAHA DO IT THISAWAY

Frankie Corritore is looking forward to summer in this wreck which, we understand, keeps company with a bunch of club members whose rides are just as cool. See?

THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE............

So says Bonneville Bob, whose Fiver was just a hulk 86 days before Speedweek. He made it. We reckon once he was there, parked the thing on than crunchy surface and shut it down, that he looked out over the cowl at that gorgeous expanse, sighed, patted the car on the dash, and got to thinkin' about where they would go....next! There really is always just one more road you and your hot rod have never been on.

THE CHEATERS OF GENEVA 2002 CALENDAR

Swiss Cheesecake is featured in the calendar we got from these mugs. Beauties and Beasts, you might call it. The beasts are the cars; The Beauties are obvious. Bill, Stef, Laurent, Meyer, Xav and Pet got the hooligan look but we bet they're civilized. Find out at www.chez.com/cheatersofgeneva.

HOP UP HAS AGREED TO SPONSOR ANOTHER BIG RACE EFFORT

HOP UP S/M

Hop Up got spanked by somebody on a message board.....and liked it...........................now do we have to register somewhere......?

T N' A

We are gonna remind you all year about the Hillclimb in River City - July. The day is fuzzy right now (we think it might be on a Monday and you have to be a member of MAFC and register for the event). We also think that since there are so few hillclimbs in So Cal, that a whole bunch of us ought to show up to demo our interest. And to run the things.

Probably don't have to beg Keven or Tom Vaughn. They are infected beyond remedy. Corrupted. No longer productive to society. Not employable. Single-minded. Tunnel visioned and oblivious to stimuli that might otherwise impinge on their consciousness and distract them from their purpose.

They are gonna race bangers and that's that.

Wonder if the Cragar can smoke 'em? (We'll have to change it to the "ACME Special", I guess, if it gets the planned flathead...or?)

The Commander is even ponderin'. Not one to throw in on just every bandwagon, he, too, has a notion of a lot of fun this side of the "Two's".

The traditional climbs in Auburn will be in April and again in the fall sometime. Make those.

We also want to get some bangers together to do Irwindale's 1/8 mile on Thursday nights. You get to make lots of passes.

WE MEAN HOT, F.A.S.T. A'S LIKE THIS ONE

Speaking of drags, they are celebrating George Riley's birthday - and ours- June 1,2 at Palmdale, by having the Antique Nationals drags on that date. We are humbled to be so honored. An appropriate pit ceremony has been in planning for some time now, it was leaked..

Thanks to the Four Ever Four Club for caring.

RUMOR UPDATE

We hated ourselves for it. You know. Publicizing that a real pal..a real Hop Up Guy...and a mild one a that.....might separate......divorce.......forsake and abandon........his famous little modified racer...just to get involved in yet another class of racin'.

It's not like we ain't spread thin.......want t' do it all.......but it seemed...well...it seemed like we should expose him, what with all the international attention he was getting around the Mild Mod. Oooops! We wuzn't gonna tell who it was!

Anywho, it turns out he read the gag on Hop Up Online and - prob'ly just to stick it to us - he has vowed to do what it was he was gonna do before he was gonna do something else. He was always determined to get into the Hop Up 100 MPH Club...you know....the Hunnert Milers....the C-Notes......that band of hairy-legged rocketeers so famous in the annals of Land Speed History. He was reasonable sure he'd beat this humble reporter to the coveted Free Tee. An' we think he might do it: after all, we are handicapped spendin' all our time reporting on HIM and can't get anything done on the project!!

We'll see.

POSSON SCULPTURE "RUNNING AT THE LAKES"
NOW AVAILABLE THROUGH HOP UP

Just after WWII, hot rodding got a start when young men took their cars out to the dry lake beds to see what they would do.

They began a whole new industry right there on the dry mud.

"Running at the Lakes", a new bronze sculpture by Steve Posson, captures the spirit of the early lakes meets.

The car has Kelsey-Hayes wheels, a dropped axle and a race car steering wheel, but everything else is pretty much stock.....and well used.

The '29 body has the cowl gas cap and the '32 grill still has its original trim and cap. The interior is tired, the door handles sag, but you know all the work is in the motor!

The racers are in blue denims with rolled up cuffs, t-shirts and boots.

"Running at the Lakes" is 26" long, carefully made by hand in lost-wax silicone bronze on a marble base. There will only be 15 made. $6,500.00
